The School

Piedmont Academy was established in 1970 as a non-profit, 501©3, accredited, independent, co-educational, college-preparatory institution educating students from pre-school through twelfth grade. The campus is located 60 miles southeast of Atlanta in Monticello, Jasper County, Georgia. The school is governed by a Board of Trustees which consists of eleven parents who are elected during the Annual Parent’s Meeting. Encompassing twenty-five acres, the campus consists of seven classroom buildings; an outside classroom; media center; cafeteria; a full-sized gymnasium including a band/music room, stage and weight room; a separate play area for elementary students; a football and soccer stadium; baseball and fast-pitch softball field with an outdoor covered batting and pitching practice area.  New to the campus is a 12,000 square foot activity building used for physical education which includes a gym, weight room, locker rooms, office, and conference room. 

Accreditation / Membership

Piedmont is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges(SACS) ,AdvancEd and with quality by the Georgia Accrediting Commission. We are a member of the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA). 

 


Admissions

Admission to Piedmont Academy is based on a family interview, satisfactory aptitude / achievement testing, references, discipline records, and academic records. Applicants must have average or above average aptitude and demonstrate a willingness to follow the guidelines of good citizenship and socially acceptable behavior.  The application/entrance testing fee of $75.00 per application is due on or before the testing appointment. Yearly tuition fees range from $4,980.00 for a pre-kindergarten student to $6,730.00 for a students in elementary, and $6,910 for grades 6-12. Educational assistance, based on need, is available to qualified applicants in grades K5-12th. Piedmont is also partners with Apogee – Georgia School Choice Scholarship Fund.  Apogee is available to new students coming from public into independent.

The Faculty & Staff

The school has 41 professional faculty and staff members-one third holds one or more advanced degrees. The ratio of students to faculty is 12:1.   The enrollment for 2016/2017 is currently 280 students.

Curriculum

Students must have a strong academic preparation in order to succeed in high school.  Our elementary grades use Singapore math, A-Beka, Accelerated Reader, and Open Court.  Our upper grades use Glencoe, Larson and Key Curriculum Press in mathematics.  All high school classes use a college preparation curriculum. Upper-grade students have required outside reading during the summer months, as well as during the year as part of their language development.

Standardized Testing

Piedmont Academy administers a comprehensive program of testing at all levels to assess the individual progress of each student. All students in grades K5-2nd are given the Stanford 10 achievement test. Third through 9th take the ACT Aspire Test and sophomores and juniors take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT). Juniors and seniors take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and American College Testing Program (ACT).  Juniors are administered the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test.  Eligible students who are obtaining driving permits are administered ADAP (Alcohol, Drug, Awareness Program) through their health class.    We have had the honor of receiving Jasper County's Star Student & Teacher for the past nine out of twelve years.
